盛酒器。制作于商代晚期,即公元前 1200-1100 年前后。器物通体为四足挺立的绵羊,盖为卷角羊首,背前伏龙,背后立凤。器身饰有龙身凤首的长形花纹,通身纹饰非常精美。羊是商周时代的吉祥物,即大吉羊,后演化成大吉祥一词。
Bronze sheep shaped wine jar
This jar was made during late Shang dynasty (1200—1100B.C.), which has a sheep body with four legs standing. The cover has the head with round horns, and a dragon lying on prone position of both sides, a small phoenix standing behind. On the body there is a beautiful remarkable carving of dragon body with phoenix head. The sheep was an important symbol during Shang and Zhou dynasties. Moreover, Chinese character for sheep was used in words with lucky meanings.
